H.R.M.S. Java and Sumara were both light cruisers of the Java Class Royal Dutch Navy, Dutch East Indies. The Java class was designed by the Germaniawerft in Kiel, but constructed in The Netherlands. They were designed to to counter the Japanese reconaissance cruisers of the Chimuna Class built in 1912. This monograph supplies ample detailed information about the cruisers Java and Sumatra: details about construction, armament, numbers of sailors, speed and machinery, services, tours of duty,etat-major and the final clash with the japanese fleet in 1942.
