Dutch language inquiry into the history of Hr.Ms. "Onrust", the first dutch Navy steamship constructed, serving in the dutch East Indies, sent to the Banjermassin Sultanate, Dutch Borneo to assist in the suppression of a local rebellion, where she was captured and sunk December 27, 1879. All crew was killed by the rebels, causing much political uproar both in Batavia as well as in the Netherlands. Author analyzes the how and why of the disaster, as well as the political and military implications. This inquiry is preceded by a rather detailed observation and history of the development of steam-engines on behalf of European and U.S. warships. Very fine copy.
