English language inquiry into the history and fate of of the VOC flagship "Batavia"ailing in 1628, stranded off Australia's Westcoast, carring a valuable cargo, the subsequent mutiny and terror which killed 125 passengers and faithful crew, facing starvation, rescued however together with the mutineers who faced death by hanging, their bodies broken on the wheel. Very good copy, WITH DUSTJACKET. (some minimal wear to top of spine).

Rather detailed chart of Elbe-river, illustrating the complete river-basin from Bohemia up to Hamburg, with useful information concernign navigation on the river. Dedication on front boards reads:"Gewidmet von der Schiffseignergenossescheaft für Binnenschiffahrtsbetrieb, e.G.m.b.H. Hamburg 8", with telepone/Cable id. Very good copy. Rare. (tail margins of frontcover a bit foxed, spine foxed and discouloured, f.e.p. foxed, ow a clean and crisp copy). 4zz41Alexandre Olivier Exquemelin was a French, Dutch of Flemish writer best known as the author of one of the the best known sourcebooks of 17th-century piracy, first published in dutch Amsterdam 1678. Originally engaged by the French West India Company Exquemelin jointed Henry Morgan in Tortuga. Afer a period of buccaneering he returned to Honfleur, perhaps his native town, and later settlet in Holland.
