Dutch language text telling the story of Dr. Corydon M. Wassell, A medic stationed on U.S.N. "Marblehead" during the battle of the Java Sea, `942. After the battle Dr. Wassell with some crew was sent ashore to round-up officers and men after the battle.Under the rapidly advancing japanese troops Dr. Wassell succeeded to escape with the men, including some wounded soldiers, not fit to be evacuated. His heroic entreprise was mentioned in a radio speech by Presiden Roosevelt and he received the Navy Cross for great bravery. Ma movie, produced by Cecil B. DeMille was produces with as main character Gary Cooper as Dr. Wassell. Good copy. (some minor stains on lower outer cover).

Authentic dutch language document in carbon-copy typoscript being the experiences of Mrs. T.Y. Hobma-Glastra, during the japanese occupation of dutch colonial Indonesia, 1942-1945 with information on various japanese concentration camps for women as Tjideng, Kramat, Tangeran, Grogol, up till the liberation, including some notes featuring the so-called "Bersiap" period. Although typed label at front side of wrappers reveals as date Batavia, 1941, in is quite clear from text at end that this report runs up till 1945. Very good copy. Very rare. (private inscription in ms. in ink at upper right corner of f.e.p., previous owner's circular red coloured rubber stamped exlibris at lower right corner).

The author, a commissioned dutch officer in the Royal Dutch East Indian Army, K.N.I.L., was a p.o.w. at Changi-jail camp, Singapore, during the greater part of the japanese occupation of Malaysia & Singapore. He kept a meticulous diary and focuses in this work on the, hitherto undescribed fate of the Indonesian K.N.I.L. p.o.w., not only discriminated by australian and british p.o.w. as so-called "Eurasians", but also used by the japanese as special slave-labourers of the "Roku" = 6th "Ban"= labourgroup. A very good copy.
