An authentic eye-witness report by one of the few survivorsof the torpedoeing, by H.M.S. "Tradewind", of the S.S. "Junyo/Junijo Maru", a japanese freighter, on 18th September 1944 near Bencoolen, with some 2200 P.O.W. (600 Europeans, 10th Bat. KNIL, and 1600 Ambonese and Menadonese) under command by Lt.Cmdr. R.N.R. Upton, and some 4000 Javanese coolies ("Romusha"), causing a great number of losses, and the aftermath (:transportation of surviving men to various camps at Pakan Baru Railroad, Sumatra), destined to slave-labour at this notorious railroad. Published to commemmorate the 50th anniversary of this disaster. Original and complete printed version after the original Ms. by one of the few survivors, a former P.O.W. and citywarden-sergeant, Regno. 8598 in post-war Batavia. A second printing has been published in the same year, omitting however a number of private details. The most complete edition. Privately published in a very small edition only. Fine copy. Scarce.

Dutch language story about the experiences by Walter Gibson, one of the few survivors of the torpedoing of S.S. "Roosenboom", a K.P.M. freighter carrying 500 refugees, amongst them 250 British troops. After a horendous journey by a small boat of some 1000 sea-miles, author reached the shores of Mentawei Island group West Coast Sumatra, wher he was captiured by the japanese military police Kenpeitai and transported to the notorius japanese P.O.W. camp at Gloegoer, Medan. Pocket-edition (as orig. publ.). Good to very good copy. (some minimal rubbing to corner of front wrapper).
