Narrative of a german missionary in together 32 'letters', who, shortly after his official ordination by the High Synod of the Evangelical Reformed church at the Hague, left for colonial Indonesia to start his missionary activities. The narrative is preceded by an account of his sea-voyage from Rotterdam to Batavia. Information is supplied on Batavia, Surabaya, Malayan and Chinese language; he visits the Sultan of Madura, to Sulawesi incl. information on paganism, his voyage to Tondano; on the Alfurese religion and pagan customs, the laguage, a meeting with Riedel, further to the Moluccas (Ternate, Ambon), back to Java and then further to China, via Singapore, Malaysia and Rhiouw, incl. notes on the chinese population of Rhiouw. Very good and clean copy, printed on thin paper. A very rare account. (lower right corner of front. & following 8pp. skillfully restored, dedication in ink on verso of title-p., dated 23 November 1847, visible on recte)

Although title suggests that this trip deals with the Moluccas, an extensive part is dedicated to a visit to Bali. Almonst Mint condition. Rare.

Sachse, in which, besides general geographical and geological features of the Island, much attention is paid to aministrative achievements: traffic and road building, stimulation of local industry and economy, dutch and indigenous politics, local agriculoture and other means of subsistence, cultural anthropology, ethnography, kinship relations, religion and beliefs, life-cycle, weapons and war, head-hunting, of various indigenous population groups. A special report on West Seran (1919) is incorporated, describing political unrest and various military and police actions by which local rioting has been suppressed 1857-1919, incl. name-lists of men killed/wounded in action. Good copy. Very rare. Dutch language authentic autobiography about daily life, experiences by one of the Southmoluccan radical youths, hijacking a train near Wijster Village, Drenthe province, December 1975, in support of plotical demands by Southmoluccan youths, fighting for political freedom, regognition of a South Moluccan Repuplic apart from the Indonesian Republic. Ijacking ended in a human drama when dutch special forces stormed the train. Describes in detail daily life in various dutch penitentiary facilities, prisoners feelings of utter loneliness, bad experiences, bitter moods, etc. Good copy. (some minimal traces of use alongside outer joints, a little bit dog-eared).
