This edn. has almost been published simultaneously with the first edn. in the same year, so this edn. might be considered as a re-impression rather than a 2nd. edn. (only place of publication has been changed from Tiel to Amsterdam). This juvenile, one of the few by author, contains 1 story (pp. 3-75) with as subject child's life in colonial Indonesia. The main character is a 10-year old girl of mixed blood, "Nonnie"(dutch father, a coffee-planter,/javanese mother) that has been sent-out, together with her governess to the Netherlands for further education. The main part of the story describes the sea-voyage aboard the 'Wilhelmina', the subsequent shipwreck, and the survival on an island. A good copy in orig.publ. cloth. (first and last blanks, hftitle, ti.-p., list of contents and fore-rim foxed, ow. clean)

Account of author's voyage through Indonesia, between december 1985-may 1986, in which author describes a great number of meetings and talks with mainly ordinary indonesians, from various religions, political denominations, race and creed. His second attempt, the first, before some seven years, was disrupted by his arrest and banning for political reasons from Indonesa as "persona non grata". Analyzing a.o. the structure of 'Orde Baru', violent politics of the Suharto administration, the position of Islam, pauperism amongst javanese peasants, state terror against peasants, a dutch deserter opposes the Suharto regime (the story of "Poncke" Prinsen and human rights in Indonesia), an interview with imprisoned political adversary's of Suharto, the dutch post-colonial trauma, agrarian policy and the struggle for political power, &c. A collection of very critical essays. Author was arrested and banned from Indonesia by the Suharto regime in 1981. Paperback edn. (as orig. publ.). Very good copy. Dutch language historic novel based on life and times of Jacques Cassard of Nantes (1679-1740), a french able seman and later commanding a frigate as Lieutenant, at the time famous for his career as a licenced Buccaneer (by the french King Louis XIV, 1712-1714) during the Spanish War of Succession. Cassard was sent on a mission to the Caribbean , where he attacked and looted the Portuguese colony of Cabo Verde, Montserrat and Antiqua (Great Britain) and the Dutch colonies of St. Eustace, Curaao and Suriname. Cassards maritime life was ended by the Utrecht treaty of 1715. Very good copy, NO dustjacket.

According to a note on verso of dedication-lve. to volume II, some extra stories have been added, NOT relayed in the original radio-talks. An interesting collection of "petite history" of the late nineteenth century in dutch colonial Indonesia. Vol. I: third edition; vol. II: Second edition. Good set.
