Novel set on Java in a fictuous Craton [Yogyakarta], with as main theme the conversion of a craton-girl and her boy-fried to christianity, incl. i.a. information on dutch protestant missionary activities on Java, a description of the so-called Garbg-Moeloed and the inter-action between dutch colonial society and the indigenous, i.e. Javanese society. Author supports Kipling's "East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet", although [christian] faith will create a bond between the 'belanda' and the javanese. Authentic dutch language document in carbon-copy typoscript being the experiences of Mrs. T.Y. Hobma-Glastra, during the japanese occupation of dutch colonial Indonesia, 1942-1945 with information on various japanese concentration camps for women as Tjideng, Kramat, Tangeran, Grogol, up till the liberation, including some notes featuring the so-called "Bersiap" period. Although typed label at front side of wrappers reveals as date Batavia, 1941, in is quite clear from text at end that this report runs up till 1945. Very good copy. Very rare. (private inscription in ms. in ink at upper right corner of f.e.p., previous owner's circular red coloured rubber stamped exlibris at lower right corner).

Incl. descriptions of a so-called "Rampok-party"and the siege of Batavia by the troops of Sultan Agoeng, under command of Toemenggoeng Boereksa.in 1629. Fine copy in orig. publ. cloth.
