Dutch language youth story set in a javanese desa (village) with as main character a javenese boy named "Si Ardjoe", son of a poor peasant, and his friend a buffalo. Pressed by a poor harvest and debts with creditors the buffalo is sold to a chinese trader. Si Ardjoe traces his buffalo, in possession of an Arab merchant and, after a job as kebon, or boy-gardener, succees in re-boying the buffalo. In this novel the chinese trader is type-casted as a honest and friendly trader, the Arab however is type-casted as a miser. Supplies good information on daily javanese village life. A good to very good copy in orig. publ. cloth. (some very light signs of bumping to corners of boards).
