Dutch language review of foreign Navies, which includes extensive technical information on horsepower, speed, armour, armament, of European Navies, including Turkey, South America (Brazil and Chile), the United States of America and Asia (China and Japan). An excellent assessment of foreign Fleets, still of great historical value. Very good copy. (spine skilfully rebacked in modern matching brown cloth, original covers preserved, new endpaper, contents with some occasional browning, NO signs of briffleness however).

English language survcey of the Asian Art collection assembled by Jim (born James Harrison Wilson Thompson, 1906) was an American businessman who helped revitalize the Thai silk undustry in the 1950s. who started in 1958 what was to be the pinnacle of architectural achievement, the construction of a new home to showcase his "objets d'art", amassed during a life of collecting, e.g.: Chinese blue-and-white Ming pieces, Belgian Glass, Campodian carvings (incl. Buddha statues and stone carved heads), Benjarong earthenware, Victorian Chandeliers, Burmese Statues, Thai stone images, chinese scroll paintings Thompson stayed at Cameroon Highlands and afer attending Easter Chruch service Sunday March 26, 1967, went for a walk disappearing into thin air, never to return. His "House on the Klong", at Bangkok, Thailand is now a museum, a highlight for visitors. Very fine copy.

This second edition has been revised and adapted as far as the section on Indo-China, as the french had already left the colony after the defeat at Dien Bien Phoe (1954). Classic chinese novel, translated into english, which has been widely red for nearly two hundred years. Directly and indirectly this book has educated the Chinese people and contributed to the development of democratic ideas. Because of the high quality of its satire, "The Scholars" has always made a deep impression on its readers. Thus the preface written during the Tung Chih period (1862-1874) by Hsin Yuan Tui Shih declares:"....You are warned not to read this novel; for once you have read it, you will feel you are meeting it characters all the time in real life". (quote preface). Unquote: [sound negative, but could be interpreted as a positive advice!]. (traces of removals on both inner covers, private ms. annotations in ink on verso of final blank, outer covers stained, contents clean).

Information supplied in the committee minutes are still of historical importance. Committee is a kind of advisory board to U.S. and Canadian protestant missionary societies, e.g. Presbyterian, Evangelical, &c. Well preserved.
