German language lavishly illustrated intricuction to the Chinese Opera, its history and development through the ages. Chinese Opera together with Greece traic-comedy and Indian Sanskrit Opera are the three oldest dramatic art forms in the world. During the T'Ang Dynasty (618-907), the Emperor Taizong establishe an Opera school with the poetic name Liyuan (Pear Garden). From the time on, performers of Chinese Opera were referred to as 'disciples of the Pear Garden'. Since the Yuan Dynasty Chinese Opera has been encouraged by court officials and Emperors and has become a traditional art form. Good copy, WITH the 3 loosely inserted Appendices. Chinese anti-Japanese Propaganda story in english with over 180 almost full-page illustrations after drawings, in which the story is told of the capture of a Japanese stronghold at the shores of LakeTaihu, Kiangsu Province, by a Chinese militia Group under command of Sister "Double Happiness", during the Chinese War of Resistance aganst Japan, 1944. An interesting piece of anti Japanese propaganda with as background the Second Worldwar in the Pacific, the occupation by the japanese of parts of China, and the firece resistanc by Chinese militia groups.
