[8], 371pp. 2 monochrome plates at rear end, one illustrating antique japanese silver coins, one facsim. fol. plate with translation in german and romanized japanese on facing page, featuring a receipt by a Yokohama Coolie mandoor presented to a Dutch minister from Yokohama to Yedo and back, index, table of contents. This edition NOT called-for in Royal Institute of Linguistics and Anthropology, KITLV dutch edition only).
Late nineteenth century german langyage Japanese grammar, translated after the original dutch published in 1867. Very fine untrimmed and unopened copy. Rare.

Holst, dealer in Egg-shell porcelain and japanese handicraft) on verso of page 7, sketch-plan inside lower outer wrapper, indicating the Eades' premises at Yokohama, some usefull addresses on lower outer wrapper, in dutch and translated into Japanese, simply to show the rickshaw-man to get there.
Supplies some concise tourist information on Japan on behalf of [dutch] travellers, travelling to and fro dutch colonial Indonesia, spending a short holiday at Japan. Previously published in a dutch indonesian daily, the "Soerabaiaasch Handelsblad". Nice copy with charming japanese style stitching. (tiny rupture to front wrapper, skilfully restored, signs of centre-folding).

[16]pp. of descr. text. frontisp., 15 full-p. plates, portr.(Nakamura Susuke), 2 large fold. plates printed on thin paper illustrating carvings on either side of an elephant's tooth, conclusion in japanese on last (unmumbered) page.
This interesting booklet in dutch describest in detail carving of an elephant's tooth by a japanese carver and designer Nakamura Susuke, the project was financed by Mr. Frans Smulders from Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and executed by command of James Eades & Co, Yokohama. The large fold. plates depict. the tooth's carvings in full on both sides. Designer and main carver was Nakamura Suzuka, his main assistants were Suzuki Ichiriusai(landscapes), Muramatsu Gyokusho (carver of figures); the ebony stand has been carved by Sasaki Kason, the locking-plate of Shakudo has been made by Kashima Ikkokusai, and the ebony table has been designed by Takei Asatara and executed by Kowada Shiun. A beautiful and curious piece of art, orignally described in a dutch magazine:"Op de Hoogte, April 1909". Very rare and in very good condition.

Deshima and is followed by an essay on the position of the dutch trading-post at Deshima during the french occupation of the Netherlands, 1795-1813. All essays lavishly illustrated. Very good copy.

[Tokyo], [Japan] International Information Service], [Showa 3], 1928 8°-sized leporello, incl. a leave with japanese text (verso blank) at front, signed in print by an unidentified japanese government official (not transcribed), and last fold also with japanese text printed on recte (verso blank). Handcoloured wood-block prints with occas. japanese explanatory [?] text printed in margins, total length 4 metres (4000 cm.), width 26cm. In a modern japanese style clothcovered overlapping box, with two clasps. SCAN AVAILABLE.
The handcoloured wood-block prints have been designed by a number of unidentified japanese artists and depict. a variety of sceneries incl. females and males. Japanese text in which is explained how the memory of the honoured Emperor has to be kept alive. A very good copy with fine expert colouring. Curious and very rare. (some little damage at lower right corner of front text-leave, skilfully restored however, contents excellent).

Original programme with 14 acts by japanese nationals, held at the Deli Cinema (Medan?), Monday 29 October 1923 at 9.00 P.M., a fund-raising evening on behalf of the victims of the Great Japanese Earthqake, Tokyo-Yokohama, 1923. Very fine copy. A curious and rare ephemeric piece.

Original Harmonica with together 44 original coloured photographs (recte 22; verso 22), mounted on thin cardboard, of which 6 captioned in english in lower corner of photograph, with tissue guards preserved. 23 photographs featuring japanese women and girls in traditional komonos, 20 photographs of sceneries: some landscapes, others coastal views (Bays), e.g. Suspension bridge near Fujikawa; Takabuko (Pappenberg, Nagasaki); Mukojima, Tokyo; Ikegami Pagoda; Lady writing letter...
A nice collection of original color photographs, partly finished by hand in color. Well preserved set, complete. (some photos a bit faded, corners of covers a bit damaged, decoration to lower outer panel faded with some scratching, some unobtrusive scratching to front outer panel).
