S.I. s.n. [Studio S. Yamamoto', approx. 1870-late 1875 Large oblong 8°. Harmonica bound between origin wooden covers, with a cloth spine. Album with together 26 occasionally captioned original monochrome photographs of which a small number with delicate and professional handcolouring. Each sized 260x200mm. Pictures illustrating topography, environmental sceneries, local population, cultural topics as a tea-ceremony, a Samurai Cavalcade, some Geisha girls. ¶ This Album includes a photograph of a Bridge of "Terry Bennetts Photography in Japan, positively attributes this image to Uchida Kuichi, titled "Yokohama Railway Station", Circa 1873. He also says this image was later obtained by Kusakabe Kimbei, retitled, and appears in many Kiumbei Albums.
The very detailed and very clear photographs illustrate in detai: japanese women, in groups or single: a Geisha playing the Samisen, another illustrating a group of 3 Geishas, one shows bare breasts, a group of men and women in a small sampan, 1 a Samurai with a small group of armend followers, Shinto-priests in front of a temple, others with topographical views, including a survey of Yokohama Harbor. Photographs in excellent condition. A rare Album.
