Dutch language juvenile story in which a young man emigrates to the Dutch East Indies and finds a Job in a Sawmill near Padang. He gets aquainted with a half-pagan and half-muslim coolie whose father tells him the legend of Kjiai Belong and Pak Saridji. He saves the life of the daughter of the Sawmill director from a tiger but looses one arm and is unfit to work. After his return to Holland he is converted to christianity. Good to very good copy in a nice decorative publ. binding. (name on f.e.p., some foxing to french titlefront edge foxed).

German language Lutheran Protestant Bible (Old and New Testament, Apocrypha and the Song of Songs ), originally translated from Hebrew and ancient Greek into german by the cleric, originally of the Roman Catholic faith, Martin Luther and it became a force in shaping modern High German language. The beutiful monochrome plates featuring fanous biblical sceneries, with include some of topographical nature (interpreted) done by the famous 19th century french artist, engraver and sculptor Gustave Doré (1832-1883), best known for his great skill in his wood- and steelengravings, expressing a dramatic impact. Massive copy of this translation in 2 volumes. (boto spines gone but skilfully replaced with original pieces laid-down, some general marginal foxing of text and plates, not touching printed/illustrated areas).
