Tog. 4 annual issues, lavishly illustrated, suppl. a wealth of information on roman-catholic christianization of Java, partly during the dutch-indonesian dispute, 1 annual, 3 others deal with the first period of the new Indonesian Republic. Very good copy. The St.Claverbond (St.Claver Association), a dutch Jesuit missionary organization, founded in 1889, named after St. Peter Claver (1580-1654) (Canonized in 1888) Spanish Jesuit, for 35 years the volunteer servant and spiritual father of the African Negroes who were brought into Cartagena, Colombia, to be sold as slaves; commenced her missionary labour in the Netherlands East Indies on 4th of April 1808, when the first Roman-catholic missionary was allowed to enter the Indies by the colonial administration. These communications have been published for her members only and supply a wealth of information on progress & achievements of Jesuit Missionary labour in the East Indies, incl. extensive notes on pagan beliefs & rites, life-cycle, means of subsistence, the controversy between christianity and Islam. Bound volumes in MINT condition, loose parts with frayed wraps. A nice, long run. (year 1889-1919 with occas. paper ex-lib. labels on spines).
